Why we charge this way
Most staffing platforms bury a 25–35% markup in the bill rate. Wonolo charges around 35% (shiftNOW, 2025). Traba takes about 35% (Substack analysis, 2025). Instawork and Qwick negotiate per account but land in the same range. The worker never sees the gross. The business can't compare. ShiftSee shows you both sides of the math, on every shift.
We chose a different path. ShiftSee only makes money when a shift actually happens. If you have a slow month, we have a slow month. If you save $500 by not eating a Saturday night disaster, we make $100. Our interests are aligned with yours.
Value frame
The math that matters isn't the fee — it's the cost of the shift not getting filled.
A missing line cook on a Saturday means a kitchen running behind, tickets backing up, walk-outs, bad reviews, and staff exhaustion. A missing housekeeper at a hotel means rooms not ready for checkin. A missing instructor at a dance studio means a class cancellation and a refund.
If ShiftSee helps you save a single shift that would have otherwise fallen apart, the 10% fee on that shift — and on every other shift you ran that week — has already paid for itself several times over.

FAQ
The entire product is free to sign up and explore. You only pay when a shift completes.
No. Neither side pays anything until work happens.
If a shift is cancelled more than 6 hours before start time, no fees apply on either side. If the business cancels within 6 hours, the business owes the shifter 2 hours at the agreed rate (and ShiftSee takes its fee on that amount). If the shifter cancels within 6 hours, it's recorded on their profile — but no fees are charged. Full cancellation policy in our Terms of Service.
After a business confirms the shift is complete, payment is automatic. Funds typically land in the shifter's bank within 1–3 business days via Stripe Connect.
Yes. Standard Stripe Connect processing fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction) apply to every payment. This goes to Stripe, not ShiftSee.
ShiftSee itself is a connection platform — how you classify and pay your workers for tax purposes is between you and them. We provide complete exportable work records (CSV + PDF) that your accountant, payroll provider, or Employer of Record can use. We're evaluating EOR partnerships for businesses that want full compliance handled inside ShiftSee — reach out if this is important to you.
